The nonprofit Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC) is providing FREE* legal assistance to help undocumented immigrant youth apply for deferred action, which provides a temporary protection from deportation. A grant of deferred action also allows an individual to be eligible for work authorization. Clinics will be held at APALC’s Los Angeles office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., beginning August 9, 2012, by appointment only.
Eligibility Criteria for Deferred Action:
-Arrived in the United States under the age of 16
- Born on or after June 16, 1981
-Have continuously resided in the United States for 5 years before June 15, 2012 and be present in the United States as of June 15, 2012
-Currently be in school, have graduated high school, or obtained a general education development certificate (G.E.D.), or be honorably discharged veteran of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States
- Have not been convicted of a felony offense, a significant misdemeanor offense, multiple misdemeanor offenses, or otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety
- Pass a background check
